Just dropping a note to remind us of how important hormones are. When your hormones are off, your emotions are off, you feel out of whack, you don’t feel like yourself, and you act differently. 

However, anything can throw off your hormones such as depression, anxiety, love, pregnancy, medication, sadness, and hate. When your hormones are intact, then you are “normal” and our bodies are regulated. 

Hormones We Know

Serotonin: is an important chemical and neurotransmitter in the human body. It is believed to help regulate mood and social behavior, appetite and digestion, sleep, memory, and sexual desire and function. There is also a link to depression.

Oxytocin: is known as the “cuddle hormone,” but that simplistic moniker glosses over the complex role this hormone plays in social interactions and bonding. It’s released when people snuggle up or bond socially. It plays a role in the female reproductive functions, from sexual activity to childbirth and breast feeding. Stimulation of the nipples triggers its release. During labor, Oxytocin increases uterine motility, causing contractions in the muscles of the uterus, or womb.

Dopamine: controls many functions, including behavior, emotion, and cognition. This chemical also communicates with the front part of your brain, which is associated with pleasure and reward. On the positive side, it helps motivate you to work toward achieving a reward.

So, just be aware that if you’re dealing with a person who may have their hormones out of whack or off, they may need to see a doctor, therapist, or psychiatrist to get back on the right track. 

Yes, mostly women are tasked with being hormonal, but men can be hormonal too. It’s just looks differently and not talked about as often b/c they are taught to hide their feelings, toughen up, or be a man, but they have feelings and emotions too! 

Finally, I wanted to put this in some sort of perspective for those who may be struggling with someone and they may not know what’s wrong with them. Hormones may not be the only problem, but it can be a catalyst to other issues. Good luck! 🌹
