I want to talk about trauma b/c there are so many different kinds and some that people don’t even know they are dealing with b/c it’s so hidden and buried.
So, here goes…
First, we have to understand what trauma is… it’s a horrific, catastrophic, terrible event that happens to us at some point in our lives. It causes many, many, many effects long after it’s gone and even can recur, if we’re not careful.
There are different kinds such as childhood trauma, generational trauma, vicarious trauma, sexual trauma, violent trauma, medical trauma, abandonment trauma, etc.
If we’re not careful, trauma can lead us to depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicide, self-medication (alcohol, drugs), smoking cigarettes, stress, and other mental health issues.
However, a lot of people don’t know they are dealing with past trauma, how to address it, or have any coping skills that can aid them in channeling negative emotions into a different space.
Sadly, everyone is dealing with a form of trauma. Either from childhood or something that happened to them along the way to adulthood. Then, life happens. Stress on top of stress. The anguish. The pressure. All of that is compounded on top of what you already have going on and haven’t faced, then one day… you explode!
The point is not to have healed completely from it b/c that may not be entirely possible (it can take years for some), but you can learn to work through it and process it, so it doesn’t become your children’s story or your children’s children’s story.
Help is possible. You don’t have to suffer in silence. You don’t have to figure things out on your own. You don’t have to continue to take your anger out on your children. You don’t have to numb your pain. You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t exist. You don’t have to be strong. You don’t have to sink into depression. You don’t have to feel invisible.
I see you, Sis. I see you, Sir. I see you. ❤
You deserve help. You deserve a chance at a life worth living and to know that you are not alone. You deserve that. You are worth and worthy of that. Your life matters.
Try therapy, post here! I am a huge advocate for therapy. I attend therapy once a week myself, so that I can work through my own issues and I do it for many reasons. I do it b/c I hit a proverbial wall in life. I do it b/c I owe it to myself and my future to be as healthy as possible. I do it b/c I realized that I couldn’t make it any further without help.
I say all that to say this… Take care of yourselves. That means physically, mentally and psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. Your babies are depending on you, but most importantly, you are depending on you. ❤
